Design in 2022 – what will packaging design look like?
As part of our series looking at design in 2022, Studio Minerva managing and creative directors Coral Briggs and Daniela Nunzi Mihranian look at what will happen in packaging design in the next 12 months.
What do you think 2022 will hold for packaging design?
It goes without saying that sustainability will continue to be a key focus for the packaging industry in 2022 – it is a constant area of education that will continue to drive innovation.
Beyond that, we expect to see an interesting shift in the way traditionally male-focussed skincare brands are showing up. Following trends seen emerging in the world of fashion, we hope to see brands exploring new ways to speak to male-identifying customers that are free from stereotypes.
A disruption to the routine use of monochrome colours, bold fonts, minimal graphics & brash names to something more layered, nuanced, and vibrant.
What is your favourite example of packaging design from 2021 and why?
Bee Loop set the benchmark for creativity in 2021 with it’s organic, recyclable, renewable, edible, biodegradable and beautiful beeswax honey packaging.
A simple closed loop solution that is rooted in the brand story, refreshingly innovative and provides a distinctive experience for the customer. A great example of purposeful and beautiful design that pushes the boundaries to drive competitive advantage.
